John Fairhurst truly epitomises the modern day wandering blues man. Stories of hunger, listlessness, roaming and reckless abandon are just a prelude to John’s story, something that can only be fully understood in the presence of the man. John tells stories of wading into the sea off the New Zealand coast to smash raw oysters off rocks simply to get something to eat, but fortunately times have changed. He has since gone on to tour the globe, eat moderately well and entertain crowds at illustrious festivals such as SXSW, Glastonbury and Tarragona blues festival (Headlining slot) to name but a few. John’s enigmatic stories relayed through intense and original blues are all told using his trademark howling vocals; think Captain Beefheart meets Tom Waits. Introduced to Sarod Master K. Sridhar at the age of 5 when he stayed with John’s family, John’s music has a distinctly eastern feel, with influences from the Sarod Master as well as his own travels through Asia. With a bottle-neck style blues referencing the likes of Son House and Bukka White, comparisons to the fingerpicking of John Fahey, a leaning towards the psychedelic 60’s rock of Hendrix and Led Zepplin and the ever present influence of K. Sridhar and Indian raga, John’s music is a real melting-pot of diverse musical traditions. John’s meandering character, lead him to New York last year where he arrived with only a bag of clothes and his beloved resonator. He met a fellow blues player and proceeded to arrange and perform 14 sell out shows in a 15 days, a fete demonstrating what a gifted performer John truly is. Bare chested and tattooed (by monks in a Thai temple), when John Fairhurst walks onto a stage you know you are not only about to hear incredible blues, but the tale of one mans tireless journey leaving a lasting impression wherever he stops (which is nowhere for very long!). Summer 2011 will see John touring with his new 3 piece outfit: Simon Lovelock on Bass (Junkyard Scientists, Dustaphonics) and James Breen (Stac) on Drums, taking his sound to new electrifying heights. Work is underway on a new record, to be released in the autumn.

The Riot Tapes
The Riot Tapes were formed in 2009 by Chris O’Brien and Elaine Doyle. From the first time they started recording a few songs, they both knew, 'this was it'. Within 3 months Chris had arranged to move his life to Dublin, to facilitate the collaboration. By April 2010, Jim Carroll from the Irish Times had heard early demos and had already dubbed their rough home recordings, “sparkly, twisty gems”.
This small review was seen by London producer, Tim Clarke, who had been scouting for new acts to work with. ”I was sent thousands and thousands of demos, but only heard two or three worth pursuing… at the top of that stack was The Riot Tapes.“ Tim and Chris quickly realised that they shared similar goals and a tireless work ethic, and so decided to work together on a record.
“Recording of the debut began in earnest in the summer of 2010.By then there were about 20-21 songs in the mix to choose from. We roughly demoed 17, decided on the 10 strongest and started working 4-5 days a week – recording all the music in various studios we could sneak into; be it home studios, mixing rooms in Dublin and London, or anywhere we could find some space to create,” says Chris.
The demos and early iterations of the recordings were shared online, by bloggers, music fans and friends and soon the demand for a release grew to a critical mass. In January Ronan Hunt-Murphy (from prominent Irish music magazine ‘Swear I’m Not Paul) called their forthcoming record, ‘one of the most anticipated Irish records in a long time″. By the summer of 2011 Phantom FM in Dublin was calling them, "the most talked about Irish band in years," while the NYC based 'le cool magazine' called them, "one of the biggest breakthrough bands of 2011".
In the fall of 2011 the band was dubbed "one of the best unsigned bands in Ireland by the Irish Daily Mail and were prominently featured on the Apprentice Ireland. They were also featured on a compilation CD of the "Best Irish Unsigned Bands," 100,000 of which were distributed my The Daily Mail in Ireland.
They will be finishing their record and playing extensively in Ireland and the UK in 2011-12.

Bantaba X
Phil Shiell has played bass in a number of bands (mainly progressive rock) since age 14. An enthusiast of active Status basses and also, more recently, the Chapman NS Stick, an eight string, multi-mode instrument. He is currently using the instrument in the Dusseldorf-based band Banataba X who perform a mix of avant-garde music, jazz and other musical elements - complex compositions, which are very rhythm oriented. Phil uses the PC-2A compressor to tame and sweeten the signal from the onboard active electronics in his basses which can be challenging to record.

Vintage Guitar Magazine
Eric Shoaf writes for Vintage Guitar Magazine where he reviews guitar related books, contributes interviews, feature stories, dealer profiles and a variety of other articles. He maintains a collection of classic Gibson archtops, a profusion of acoustic flat-tops, and about 30 lapsteel guitars of pre-war vintage.
He came of age in the 1970s where his playing was fueled by popular music of the time, early and contempory blues. "I guess it was Johnny Winter more than anyone else that started me looking to find original blues recordings," he said recently. "I was into Clapton, Santana, Beck, all those monster guitarists, but blues music moved me more than anything." Not surprisingly his own playing is steeped in blues and he has cultivated a fine ear for tone over the years.

Survivor
Frank Sullivan is one of the founding members of Survivor, and has been the only constant member of the band since their formation in 1977. The band's big break came in 1982 when Sylvester Stallone commissioned them to write the theme to Rocky III. Along with former bandmate, keyboardist/vocalist Jim Peterik, Frank co-wrote "Eye of the Tiger" which became an instant hit, holding the #1 spot for seven weeks on the Billboard charts. Frank uses the PC-2A compressor and is looking forward to getting hold of a Tube-Drive and Vibra Chorus as soon as they are available.

The Baseballs
The history of THE BASEBALLS began in 2007 in Berlin. Sam, Basti and Digger met by chance in a recording studio and started doing cover versions of songs from the Fifties and Sixties. But soon they discovered the appeal of transforming modern songs into a rock’n’roll style, or in the band’s own words: “We take good songs and lead them to their true destiny”.
The release of their debut album “Strike!” in May 2009 ignited BASEBALLS mania all across Europe. The band held top positions in the European charts for weeks, achieved record-breaking sales: 4x platinum in Finland, platinum in Sweden, Norway and Holland, Double-platinum in Switzerland, silver in the UK and gold in Germany.
On April 15 the winners of the German Echo Award 2010 for Best Newcomer release their new album “Strings’n’Stripes”.
