"Exceptional warmth and definition for a beautiful, warm, balanced tone."

Acoustode Vacuum Tube Preamp

The 'Acoustode' is an audiophile quality, vacuum tube preamp, pickup booster and buffer in a compact and easy-to-use pedal format. This tough little black box is specially designed to add warmth, clarity and richness to enhance the tone of acoustic guitar piezo pickups and microphones. It's transparency and musical sound quality also make it ideal for use with NS Stick, upright or electric bass, mandolin, fiddle, Rhodes or Wurlitzer electric piano, drum machines, lap steel guitar, in fact any recorded instrument signal will be benefit from being enriched with this preamp. The Acoustode is equally at home on tour or in the studio where can be used breathe life and add warmth to the sterile, clinical sound of digital recordings or sound cards.

The signal-path is based on a NOS subminiature triode 6111 tube - tube notch/lowpass filter and tube phase inverter to achieve optimum gain and tonal balance when connecting acoustic instruments to guitar combos or PA. These tubes were manufactured to meet the stringent MIL-E-1 specification for reliability and designed for long service life under conditions of severe shock, vibration (20,000G!), high temperature and high altitude. The subminiature tubes represent the pinnacle of tube technology and offer more consistent musical performance than the early NOS germanium transistors.

Features

  • All-Tube: 100% analog tube signal path based on a NOS Mil-spec subminiature 6111 tube
  • Tube notch filter: Smooth notch response to minimize phase-delay distortion
  • Phase Switch: Phase reversal switch - 0deg (in phase) or 180deg(inverted)
  • True Bypass: With Effectrode's unique ‘anti-pop’ or ‘thump’ footswitching circuitry utilizing sealed, gold-contact relay to eliminate the possibility of dirty contacts degrading the sound and minimial internal audio path.

TINY TUBES!

6111 Subminiature Tube

Incredibly tough due to their tiny size, subminiature tubes are a legacy from the World War II effort and were developed for use as proximity fuses in artillery shells! Effectrode is now utilizing these little tubes for peaceful purposes - to create extremely compact and tough little effects pedals.

SOUNDS

Here's a sample of 1980s Martin Sigma DM-4 fitted with piezo pickup through Fender Tweed. Recorded with ADK A-51 TC close miked to amp. First half of the sample is with the preamp switched on with filter on maximum, second half of the sample is with the preamp in bypass.
