'Tunnel Phasing'
Resonance or feedback deepens the notches in a phaser or flanger comb filter response. At slow modulation or sweep rates this gives the effect of sounding like you're inside a pipe or tunnel. For a great example of this effect check out Alex Lifeson's guitar solo in 'Red Barchetta' by RUSH.

Tubes are King!
Vacuum tubes are extremely resilient to high signal levels that would cause clipping or permanent damage to transistors, FETs and op-amps. The Phaseomatic Deluxe utilises this advantage to achieve massive 'larger-than-life' phasing effects which are simply not achievable with solid-state phaser pedals. The feedback levels in the Phaseomatic would vapourise the average transistor!

Did You Know . . .
The LFO in the Phasomatic is capable of generating super-slow 1/40Hz comb filter sounds. That's a sweep rate of 40 seconds! If this isn't slow enough then the LFO can also be configured to produce a constant output. The comb notches can then be moved around manually with the sweep control to produce hollow or errie timbres.

Use the Phaseomatic for authentic synthesis of those sci-fi tonalities!

Phaseomatic Deluxe Configuration

LFO Wave Selection

wave cycle The Phaseomatic Deluxe pedal incorporates an advanced NCO (Numerically Controlled Oscillator) which is much more powerful than the traditional LFO found in many other modulation effects. Rotating the 'Wave' knob alters the shape of the modulation waveform; starting with a smooth triangle wave, moving to a triangle wave and then rounded square wave at the 12 o'clock position. Then there are rising and falling sawtooth waves, followed by stepped waves with three, four, five six seven and eight steps depending on the position of the knob.

Mixed Wave Modulator A highly linear triangle wave shape can be used to create subtle, beautiful and natural chorus effects at medium to higher modulation rates. At low modulation rates, deep tunnel and jet phasing effects can be obtained. These effects can be further excentuated by switching in the resonance. The pseudo-square wave is great for those swampy Tube-Vibe tones and the stepped function is particularly effective at creating haunting and almost vocal sounds with arpeggiated picking sequences. This is a highly tweakable pedal, so go ahead, experiment and get creative.

Internal Feedback Trimmer

United Planets Cruiser C57D For the experimenters, there is an internal trimmer to adjust the amount of feedback in the phase-shifter section for special resonance or self-oscillation effects. These settings drastically transform the response characteristics of the phaseomatic and how the control knobs interact with each other and even the volume control on your guitar. The phaseomatic deluxe's all-tube signal path allows huge amount of feedback to be injected without overload for some frighteningly funky phase-wah tones and weird 1950's sci-fi movie 'tonalities'.

To access the trimmer first power the pedal down and then remove the rear panel. Caution is advised when using the phaseomatic deluxe in feedback mode. The response is very 'peaky' and will probably overload transistorised gear. To avoid any unpleasant acoustic surprises turn down your amp before making any adjustments to the feedback trimmer. A real pandoras box of sounds but you have to work to get them.

Gain adjustments

Gain can be tailored to integrate the Phaseomatic Deluxe into your rig. Unity (0dB) up to 6dB of gain can be achieved by removing the rear panel and replacing the gain resistor (22KOhms) with the appropriate value. The unit is supplied stock with unity gain. If the resistor is removed the gain will be 6dB. If the resistor value is reduced, attentuation can also be achieved.
