Description

This beautiful little fuzz is built on a vintage, hand selected, space grade pencil tube and N.O.S. germanium point-contact crystal diodes—there’s a lot of glass in this pedal! This combination of hot biased and cold-biased tube gain stages with crystal diode clipping circuitry blends thermionic (asymmetrical) and solid-state (symmetrical) distortions to generate beautiful fuzzed guitar tones. At full throttle this little pedal can generate outrageous ‘blocking-distortion’ which sounds like a tube amp being pushed beyond it’s limits.

Rolling back the ‘Fuzz’ control creates an immense, bold fuzz tone with endless amounts of smooth liquid sustain that stretches notes into infinity. At lower fuzz settings the MERCURY cleans up to produce natural sounding (real!) tube dirt and overdrive with unprecedented clarity and string-to-string definition. It’s an incredibly simple, yet versatile pedal.

Sub-miniature (or pencil) tubes were developed during World War II for missile control and therefore had to be exceptionally tough devices. These tubes were manufactured to meet the stringent MIL-E-1 specification for reliability and designed for long service life under conditions of severe shock, vibration (20,000G!), high temperature and high altitude. The sub-miniature tubes represent the pinnacle of tube technology and offer more consistent performance than the early transistors. Effectrode is now utilising these little tubes for peaceful purposes—to create extremely compact and tough little effects pedals!

Note: This is a limited edition pedal. Due to the limited availability of high quality N.O.S. tubes, we cannot guarantee continued production of this pedal for any amount of time.

FEATURES

  • 100% pure analogue vacuum tube audio path operating at amp plate voltages
  • Fuzz Flexibility: Stacks of fuzz sounds from devastating over-the-top tube amp ‘blocking distortion’, to classic 70s Page and Clapton fuzz—the fuzz cleans-up very nicely when the guitar volume knob is rolled back to produce warm, tubey drive tones.
  • ‘BIAS’ Switch: Enables you to center bias or hot bias or cold bias the second tube stage.
  • Crystal Diodes: A unique cascaded arrangement of vintage germanium crystal diodes gives the MERCURY more dynamic range and a rich, complex tone.
  • True Bypass: With Effectrode’s unique ‘anti-pop’ or ‘thump’ footswitching circuitry
  • Fitted with N.O.S Sylvania tube: Each MERCURY fuzz pedal is fitted with a hand-selected 6948 sub-miniature tube. This is one of the finest tubes ever built by any manufacturer at any time in history.
  • ‘Dakaware’ Knobs: Authentic bakelite ‘Dakaware’, Chicago 1510 knobs custom manufactured for Effectrode in the U.S.A using the original 1940s moulds.
  • Includes 12V Wall-wart Power Supply: High quality low-noise switched mode 12VDC at 1.5A wall-wart compatible with all our pedals. Accepts 100V to 240VAC mains input and comes with different mains outlet adaptor plugs, so there is always a plug that fits the country that you are playing in.
  • John Glenn was the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth in 1962 putting the Americans ahead of the Russians in the space race for the first time. The Effectrode Mercury fuzz pedal is named after the space vehicle, or capsule, in which he made 3 orbits of the Earth and is our tribute to the fantastic achievement of Glenn and all those involved at NASA.

I last used a cheap fuzz pedal decades ago, and this is not how I remember them. I was looking for something to dirty up my sound as my guitars were sounding a little too lovely and posh, so thought this might do the trick. It has done that, but what I’ve been most taken with so far is the fabulous sustain and the harmonics bouncing around. My Les Paul has been getting close to that Neil Young sound I love, and I am very keen to get a rehearsal room or gig where I can hear it properly loud. I’m betting it will be incredible. Oh, and I love the look of it, too.

I am into sounds. I believe that some sounds are better received, to my ears, when played in a particular manner. I’ve been into synthesizers since the 70’s. Not good to say the least, but I enjoy editing sounds! So hearing a sound sparks many ideas in my grey matter at times. The Mercury Fuzz has done that! It is very nice to have a tool that helps sparks more creativity. It gave me a new path for creating.

Purchased the Mercury as a consequence of becoming hooked by the PC-2A compressor, my favourite always on pedal, but finding my sound just too smooth and beautifully clear and articulated. Admit that I struggled with the Mercury for a while, but after 2 months of fine tuning I have to say that there is no other pedal out there that I’ve tried that sparks and sparkles with such effervescent energy, so tactile, hair standing on end spine tinglingliness. If my wife knew the sense of nervous excitement I feel with foot poised over the footswitch she’d be jealously questioning my fidelity. I was after a pedal to spice things up a bit. What I’ve found is a magic bullet – reinvigorating – dangerous – addictive.

There are fuzz pedals and there are FUZZ pedals. The Mercury is indeed Mercurial in the way that it adds grit and drive whilst retaining a natural character. It reminds me of a nicely cranked amp; this is as opposed to some other fuzz pedals that can seem artificial and plastic sounding. I personally love the way that the Mercury has the flexibility to go from being subtle to outrageous but yet in a musical way that’s an inspiration to play.

The other day I ran the: Mercury fuzz, Fire Bottle, and Tube-vibe through a 1972 Echoplex into the low gain side of a JCM 800 pushing the 4×12 Greenback cab.  Was playing with a Telecaster and a SG.  The sound was incredible.  I was kind of on the fence with the Mercury as I am use to being able to roll back the volume and get a substantially cleaner tone.  That and it does not have the bite as some of my other fuzz pedals.  However the sound I was getting running that setup was glorious.  Defiantly glad I have it.

  6. Phil Taylor (Gilmour Music) - Great Britain 1st September 2013

I think the Helios is really good – I had Andy Jackson down for tests in the studio yesterday and he thought the same. Can I please get another one asap – this week if poss or beginning of next week. I want to replace the ***** pedal in the control room set up with it before David (Gilmour) starts recording. Good job Phil

  7. Andy Jackson (Tube Mastering) - Great Britain 1st September 2013

I was down at David Gilmour’s studio last week with t’other Phil Taylor. Got the chance to check out the Helios pedal. Bloody marvellous!! Apart form the generally great sound, I was particularly impressed by the way that you can have it cranked and it’ll still respond to playing dynamics, just playing gently reined it back to merely ‘fruity’. Let me know when you’re in production, I shall be saving my pennies in the meantime. All the best, Andy Jackson

  8. Tristan Klien - France 1st September 2013

I used the Helios on the ‘Creamy’ Blackbird channel. Inspiration came immediately. I would say seventies rock. reminds me a lot tones from the band Plankton or Bonamassa in Rock Candy Funk Party. tons of gain but so SWEET!!! nothing agressive, always a lot of precision but fat in the same time… this pedal makes me think about chocolate cake just made and still warm, you know? 🙂 I have a lot of messages from people saying I’ve never sounded so good since using the Helios to boost the creamy voicing of the Blackbird – no one has ever owned a fuzz that sounds so good!!! Like every device with the Effectrode name written on it, it’s not just an effect, it’s an instrument by it’s own – a constant source of inspiration.

  9. Adrian Legg - Great Britain 1st September 2013

This fuzz is still fabulous beyond words. Clarity seems an odd concept, but there it is, nails, polyphony and raw, ragged aggression. Apparently I can have it all. The Helios fuzz is pretty much the cat’s whiskers (geek joke). Watch Effectrode’s website, and if they even think about making something, order it.

  10. Stephen Paskey 1st October 2013

Phil, The Helios is tremendous I just did Iron Butterfly, Time and Are you Gonna Go My Way – it’s a box of creamy fuzziness – a bit of Tube Drive mixes in nicely too. Love it.

  11. Jon Russell 1st October 2013

…I love the new Helios, sweet tone with my Strat pickin’ the Blues.

  12. Alvaro Carrión Roncero - Switzerland 1st October 2013

I’ve just received the Helios fuzz. What a wonderful tone!!!! It’s amazing!

  13. Martin Reid - Australia 1st November 2013

The Helios is in the house and so far so good. I’ve tried with an array of Marshall and Fender amps with my main Les Paul and Strat and the thing that strikes me is how it responds with the different combinations. I know I’m not going to describe this all that well but unlike other fuzz pedals I have and have had, both the good and the poor ones, they all essentially have a sound or sounds that they are trying to push through whatever guitar/amp combo you use where the Helios is more “organic” and is like a quality ingredient that blends well with other ingredients for a broad palette of potential aural bliss. It seems to work “with” whatever guitar and amp you have rather than in spite of them. I haven’t even adjusted the ‘STARVE’ internal trim pot yet however I love the ‘FIRE’ switch. The Helios, to my ear, brings out the best in my Strat. 🙂

  14. Guy Taylor 1st November 2013

I did just want to say, that I think you make the best pedals out there, I’m up to four of them now, and am constantly extremely impressed! I am currently loving the Helios 🙂

  15. Dave McDonald - Great Britain 1st November 2013

Received the PC-2A, Helios and Tube Drive and I’m completely blown away by all of them. Thanks again for the quick despatch, I’m really looking forward to using them in anger tonight!

  16. Chris Gray - U.S.A. 1st November 2013

What a fantastic sound. You guys have a winner!

  17. Big City Music - U.S.A. 1st November 2013

Effectrode Audiophile Pedals Helios Tube Fuzz pedals are here and they sound as beautiful as they look.

  18. Ilia Boussen - Russia 1st December 2013

I just wanted to tell You how much I liked Your new Helios fuzz and Tube Drive! Great job on them – and I’m glad that You decided to return Tube Drive into production! I especially loved Tube Drive and Helios working together – fuzz before drive – great response and dynamics! These are so far the most “alive” and natural pedals I’ve tried!

  19. Scott Rabinowitz - U.S.A. 1st February 2014

The Helios is a fabulous pedal and I still get surprised how many different sounds I get out of it between various settings on the pedal
    and my guitars.

  20. Rob Lytle - U.S.A. 1st March 2014

I purchased the Helios and now the Tube-Vibe from you. I love the Helios. Thanks so much for the fantastic service and
    products.

  21. Paul Chapkin - U.S.A. 1st May 2014

Thanks for the fast response! I recently bought a new amp (Tungsten Crema Wheat) and have been enjoying the Helios, Fire Bottle and Tube Drive even more! I have to find a way to make this more than just a(n expensive) hobby!

  22. Bernhard Botz - Austria 1st July 2014

The Helios arrived today, safely packed and super fast! I just gave it a premiere go and what can I say, this pedal is as good as it gets I guess, the sound is mindblowing, the saturation (if that term can be used) is incredibly sweet, I just played while the sun was setting, that maybe added an extra bit! Thanks again, I gladly will get back to your pedals when possible in the future!

  23. Jim Blaney - U.S.A. 1st July 2014

I wanted to let you know that my Helios fuzz pedal arrived yesterday and it is spectacular! I spent almost four hours playing my guitar through it last evening. Whether I was using it as a stand alone pedal between the guitar and amplifier or in my effects chain it delivered superb tone and sound. It was everything I hoped for and much more! My favorite configuration was actually using my guitar, the Fire Bottle, then the Helios between my amplifier. (the guitar being a Fender David Gilmour relic model and the amplifier a Marshall 1974X handwired). I have read on your website that your company is hoping to develop an echo unit based on the Binson Echorec. If that device ever comes to fruition, I would certainly be interested in purchasing one. Even if it is a limited production model. Besides the above mentioned Fire Bottle and Helios, I own an Effectrode power supply, Tube-Vibe, Blackbird, and Compressor and have been blown away by the quality of the devices. I have been collecting effects units since 1974 and Effectrode is definitely the highest quality I have ever had the pleasure of playing.

  24. Sion Michel - U.S.A. 1st July 2014

Pedal arrived today in California. Fast as shipping! Love the service and now about the pedal: AMAZING FUZZ TONE!!! WOW!!! Ran it through my Tone King Imperial AMP nothing else and put it through the paces. Love the control, the ‘Fire’ switch and the build. Very pleased with my second Effectrode Pedal! Thanks heaps!

  25. Tobin Hopwood - Canada 1st July 2014

The Helios just arrived and I gotta say it surpassed all my expectations. It is everything you could want from a fuzz and overdrive distilled into one incredible tone. The clarity (with humbuckers even) is unreal. Thank you!

  26. Adrian Legg - Great Britain 1st September 2014

The most magical fuzz; warm, fat, organically filthy enough to grow perfect roses, and hard to get hold of. The cognoscenti have discovered it and every batch sells out right away — this isn’t mass-production. It is full-frequency, and will handle finger-picking at lower gain levels; in fact you can check out via this link a sample I did using a snatch of a piece I recorded for the “Dead Bankers” CD.

  27. Fabian 1st September 2014

    Haunting Mids

Your Helios is amazing, just like all my Effectrode pedals – you’re a genius.

  28. Oren Weizman 1st December 2014

The Helios is another beast altogether. Like the Germanium NKT Fuzzes it retains warmth and lower end giving your guitars less of a flimsy tonality when they are run through it, the Helios has subminiature tubes powering it and on lower gain settings you really feel that tube driven character. What it has that the G-2 and other didn’t have? Presence, huge presence that really commits to high headroom amps. I loved the G-2 but it didn’t love me… the Helios? It’s like that kid in the Fuzz classroom that hugs everyone! Full review can be found online here.

  29. Roy Lindsay - Great Britain 1st December 2014

I used my Helios Fuzz live for the first time last week. It was so good that I’m now going taken the Pete Cornish P1 and G2 off my pedal board!

  30. Joe Caruso - Great Britain 1st December 2014

Bravo! What an outstanding pedal [Mercury]. Pin drop quiet! An amazing range. The perfect colorless match up for pure tone! And Max Headroom. I love the 70’s fuzz or Disto Boston’s “more than a feeling” comes to mind when implementing the heat side & Doobie Bros “riding down the highway” when out of the heat mode. I’ve not had this much fun since I was a teenager (last week) lol! :-))) Thanks for all your hard work & crazy insane attention to detail!

  31. Chris Pearson - Great Britain 1st December 2014

Thank you for pedals and T shirt. Fantastic sound it really helps my tone and creativity:-) helps express myself:-) Have great Christmas.

  32. Nick Laird-Clowes - Great Britain 1st December 2014

The Mercury fuzzbox arrived today and completely lives up to (and indeed exceeds) my expectations. Really great work!! Thank you so much.

  33. Matt Harris - Great Britain 1st December 2014

Phil. Just to say Mercury fuzz is awesome. Spent last night blasting it into my blackbird with awesome results. Clean boost between the two and I’m a happy chap. Had fuzzes before and always found them too much but this is controllable and cleans up so nicely to light touches. Top job

  34. Roy Lindsay - Great Britain 1st December 2014

Just received, with thanks, one of your amazing Mercury fuzz pedals. I also have the Helios which brought in a new standard for me. Much better than anything I have ever tried including the Cornish stuff. Now the Mercury Fuzz is even better, a bit less toppy, and more creamy sounding. It’s so good I have brought another as a spare.

  35. John Barnett - U.S.A. 1st December 2014

I am a small town musician from Mississippi USA and I first of all wanted to compliment you all on the superior quality of your products. I can honestly say that out of the many effects pedals I’ve used over the years, these are in a separate league of there own. I have accumulated now 6 of these pedals, and each time I plug one up for the first time is nothing short of a revelation. As difficult as you can imagine it is to find these products in the rural area which I reside and, of course, being the in the USA in general, ordering directly from you has been by far the fastest most efficient method of obtaining one. I just received, to my amazement, the Mercury Fuzz yesterday and couldn’t be more pleased. If possible, might you take the time to suggest a possible order of the pedals I have so far? They are as follows: Fire Bottle, PC-2A, Tube Drive, Tube-Vibe, Mercury Fuzz, Helios Fuzz. Thank you again for your outstanding products and service.

  36. Miguel Fumeaux - Switzerland 1st December 2014

Mercury in good company! And the sound is… tremendous as always Thank you Effectrode.

  37. Ryan Gallagher - U.S.A. 1st December 2014

Received my Mercury pedal today. I had it right next to my Mesa Boogie V-Twin tube pedal and it is just as big and rich sounding as the Mesa. Even great sounding transistor fuzz’s have a hard time competing with that pedal. Whenever you go from all tube overdrive to a solid-state overdrive or fuzz there’s always this drastic change in overall sound quality going from tube to transistor so I’ve always had trouble committing to any one fuzz circuit. The Mercury on the other hand is like this magical third tube super drive fuzz channel I now have suddenly. This thing keeps going where the Mesa drops off and that is really saying something because the V-twin is as good or better than a lot of amp distortions. Needless to say I’m very pleased. I’ve been playing with the same overdrive and distortions for a long time and I’ve been wanting something new but just haven’t found anything I liked better until know. Usually I would just use fuzz pedals for specific things but this is great for leads and for rhythm. Then if you back off of the gain it’s a great overdrive. Very fat and defined. Sorry for rambling on but I’ve been looking for many years to find something for this hole in my sound and I think this guy might be it. I have an unhealthy relationship with guitar tones. I can’t to try more Effectrode pedals. Service was also great. Thank you guys very much and have a merry Christmas!!!

  38. Roger Cordell (Big City Music) - U.S.A. 1st December 2014

Hi Phil. I got my hands on the shipment earlier this evening and went back to the shop to try a Mercury out. It sounds amazing. It’s sound is smoother and more open than the Helios. Fantastic job Phil!

  39. Jeff Comeau - U.S.A. 1st December 2014

OMG… the sustain is infinite! This might be the best guitar effects pedal [Mercury] ever made. And that was through my little Swart Space Tone. Haven’t even hooked her up to the HiWatt yet. Super sweet Phil… nice work man…

  40. Brian Doros 1st January 2015

Received my Mercury Vacuum Tube Fuzz pedal yesterday. This cool looking little yellow jewel is now my new pride and joy. The crystal diode and mil-spec subminiature twin triode circuit design is brilliant and the device works flawlessly. The pedal is able to give a player everything from a subtle slightly overdriven blues sound to that classic 3rd order distorted sound of rock and roll in past history, plus everything in between. The sustain and ability to control feedback are amazing. The fact that the player is able to interact with the pedal as part of the effect to such a level by using pick attack and guitar volume adds even more dimension to an already very capable device, not to mention the internal controls that give even more flexibility. All this on top of the complex rich harmonic tone makes this new addition on my pedal board one that is on all the time.

  41. Matthias Schmidt 1st January 2015

I recently bought a TF-2A and it’s such a pleasure to play with! Usually I don’t appreciate fuzz pedals, but the Mercury is different – it sounds more like a very special tube overdrive pedal- I use it also as a tube booster (with fuzz pot about 9 ‘o clock) and it sounds pretty cool. I appreciate the Mercury especially when slightly turning down the volume of the guitar. It is such a dynamic, sensitive pedal!

  42. David Albertz - U.S.A. 1st August 2014

I have to say, I was expecting to be impressed with the Mercury Fuzz. I was not expecting to find myself loving it as a smooth overdrive or boost into the Blackbird! I really love the organic overdrive sound as well as the hairy sputtering you get at the both extremes!

  43. Mike Bandli 1st January 2014

The Merc was the missing link for my rig. The crystalline sound it produces at low gain with the heat switch on is simply amazing and unique. It is now a key component of my sound. Well done, Phil.

  44. Will Thomas Bowden - Great Britain 1st January 2015

My Helios turned up this morning… I’m blown away! The whole thing is just perfect, but I’m particularly impressed with how dynamic and responsive it is to your playing… Hats off to you Phil. I’m very much looking forward to getting more of your pedals.

  45. Will Thomas Bowden - Great Britain 1st February 2015

Still immensely happy with my Helios! It’s really all I’ve been using since I got it! I had my brother here the other day and he loved it so much he now wants to get himself a Mercury Fuzz!

  46. Steven Dupler - U.S.A. 1st February 2015

Since I cannot live without my PC-2A Compressor, I expected a lot from my Mercury Fuzz. It is incredible. Capable of the most subtle, crunchy overdrive to the sweetest, singing sustain. The musical distortion pedal I’ve ever used, at all volumes and settings. Amazing, Phil…

  47. Noël Leeuwen - Netherlands 1st February 2015

The Mercury is my first Effectrode pedal. As said by everyone, great sounds and dynamics. It combines well with the Son of Kong from Spontaneous Audio Devices.

  48. Tony Kotula - U.S.A. 1st February 2015

This pedal [Mercury] is simply the best and richest distortion pedal I have ever played through. I am using it on top of a clean sound of a Soldano SLO100 and it is remarkable. It makes you not yearn for the hot channel of the SLO because it is so responsive and full feeling and sounding. What a great job you’ve done with this! You know, a person could simply keep one in his guitar case and at any time basically plug into ANYTHING and sound better automatically.

  49. Vince Elhalawany - U.S.A. 1st March 2015

I would love to be added to the email waiting list, you guys make the best products on the market. I am never buying effects pedals from another company, ever again.

  50. Troy Shanks - Great Britain 1st April 2015

I’m loving the Mercury Fuzz! Surpassed my already high expectations. Either alone or with various combinations of my other Effectrode pedals work most nicely. The pedals in sequence from left to right in the pics below work perfectly and are incredibly versatile. The Mercury handles a Roger Mayer Vision Wah in front of it fabulously too. Very pleased all round. Many thanks for your efforts, skills and dedication to excellence which are truly inspirational in more ways than one. I just need to find a Helios and Phaseomatic Deluxe and then the board will be about perfect. 🙂 Sod completeness for its own sake, I’m just looking for maximum sonic goodness and your creations are truly sublime. The Mercury is just nuts: So much versatility in tones from two knobs, a switch (and some archaeo-futurist voodoo circuit I suspect). Fed into the blue channel of the Blackbird or into the Tube Drive adds even more tasty sonic selections. I decided then that a Tube-Vibe had to be brought into the fold as the Effectrode circuits are not only stellar by themselves but stupendous in combination. My other pedals are great but the Effectrode tones, versatility, design and construction is faultless. So too is their enhancement of each other. If most people exhibited such characteristics the world would be a paradise on earth! Well until then some of us fortunate ones do have Effectrode gear to make it at least sound as majestic as the heavens. To think that some actually make argument and post for all the world to read that there are no sonic benefits to valve pedals – and valve overdrive pedals particularly – of any kind over ones consisting of transistors. The same who conversely would also never play through a solid state amp. Effectrode tones ate the final word on any such matters. There simply is no argument of substance against these tube marvels. They are the pinnacle of sonics in effects pedal technology. I guess many are just “tone deaf” when it comes to overdrive pedals – or they’ve never tried any good ones. I have a couple of other valve OD pedals by other manufacturers and they both beat out the transistorised competition too. There is an extra dimensionality and airiness to well-designed valve OD circuits. The Effectrodes have those qualities in spades.

  51. Troy Shanks - Great Britain 1st April 2015

In “non-starvation” mode, setting the Fuzz knob in the middle leaves some room for cleaning up from the guitar (even with the Blackbird after it). For a higher gain type fuzz without using another drive with it, then simply rolling up the Fuzz dial from this point provides as much as anyone could need for those type sounds,

  52. Charlie Shapiro (Tone Tubby Speakers) - U.S.A. 1st April 2015

Mercury Fuzz! WOW! So your pedals have kicked off almost all the other pedals off my board. So I need to start assembling a back up pedal board. ‘Wow’ – that is all I can say?

  53. Fraser Macoll - U.S.A. 1st May 2015

Mercury fuzz sounds amazing. Late birthday present from the old man! Off to South America tomorrow to continue touring with my band Jungle, Mercury fuzz is a very welcome addition!

  54. Mike Meadows - U.S.A. 1st August 2015

I was finally able to try my (your) new Mercury Tube Fuzz. I like the sound a lot! In fact, it sounds so good, my neighbors may end up believing that I can actually play guitar now. Thanks Effectrode for fabricating this kind of equipment.

  55. Alan Evans - Great Britain 1st February 2016

Wanted to say that the Mercury Fuzz is really cool. Seriously impressed.

  56. Will Wilson 1st February 2016

Just got my Mercury yesterday! Pretty damn pumped been eyeing this baby up for quite a while now! Thanks Phil for getting it and making pure AWESOMENESS!?

  57. Amanda Catherine - U.S.A. 1st March 2017

Wow. Shipped Monday morning, arrived Thursday morning before breakfast! That’s a fast hop to Oregon. I’m so excited. Looking forward to the Delta-Trem and Phaseomatic. Here’s hoping you have a great 2017. Your work and attention to build quality are much appreciated.

  58. David Lee - U.S.A. 1st March 2017

Oh hell yes! Well worth the wait. This Fuzz is absolutely KILLER! Every setting yields a sweet spot. The sustain is to die for & leads scream out & cut thru the mix of the band like they’re supposed to! The textures coming out of this juicy as hell pedal are inspiring and the notes just ring out like a sweet sledgehammer to the soul. Fantastic job folks! WOW! Any pedal that makes your rib cage vibrate is a keeper 🙂

  59. Patrick Archambault 1st March 2017

Hi Phil, My Mercury is well seated next to the Fire Bottle and the PC-2A… I’ll never find a fuzz that sounds awesome like this pedal!! Thanks!

  60. Jorma Suni - Finland 1st March 2017

Hello Phil – Thank you for an outstanding product. And thank you to Sam too. The Mercury has given a new life for my 1979 Twin Reverb ultralinear. Not to mention my other amps. ATB Jorma

  61. Andrew Brown - U.S.A. 1st March 2017

Sounds incredible! Thank you sir for what you do! Your efforts shine as bright as the light on this pedal!

  62. Davide De Bortoli - Italy 1st April 2017

WOW il MERCURY è FANTASTICO!!!! Ho allegato 2 file di prova. Grazie Grazie Grazie.

  63. Doug Robertson - Canada 1st April 2017

Just letting you know my Mercury landed safely today. I’ve never really been a fan of Fuzz, but the sound clips were of something better than Fuzz so I took the chance; if anyone was to get this right it’d be Effectrode. And, wow, did you get it right! Rich, thick, chewy, but with string clarity. It sounds incredible on either of my amp’s channels. Thanks! I can’t wait for my next Effectrode!

Hi Phil. I just received my Mercury Fuzz and I’m completely blown away! What a great-sounding Fuzz, congratulations! Unrelated to my previous post, I just hooked the Mercury Fuzz up ahead of my TD-2A Tube Drive and, uh, I think I’ve opened a rift in the space-time continuum and melted my face off………….. I can’t get this crazy grin off of my face! Truly amazing pedals!

I wanted to tell you that I own 3 of your pedals at this time:

    Mercury Fuzz
    Compressor
    Fire Bottle

And all of your pedals are the finest I have ever encountered. The sound and build quality are unmatched. I am REALLY looking forward to the Blackbird.

Is there any way you can let me know when you will be releasing some of the limited edition pedals I have seen you produce. Example: Helios Fuzz and Chorus. My goal is to have everything you make.

  66. Elias Madias - Germany 1st November 2017

By the way, after having owned almost every boutique fuzz pedal out there, I couldn’t believe it when I played the first note on my Mercury Fuzz. I have never heard such note articulation with such a smooth tone. I actually stood there with my mouth wide open. Thoroughly impressed, and after all those pedals, its’ not so easy to be shocked by the tone of a pedal anymore. Keep up the good work. Elias Madias.

Just wanted to say a big thanks for sending the Mercury Fuzz out so quickly – I’ve been playing it for a couple of hours & absolutely love it! So dynamic & cleans up excellently with the guitar’s volume. It’s fitting into my Effectrode family very well!! (picture attached)

  68. David Pineda - U.S.A. 1st April 2018

I received the Mercury this morning and it is out of this world. From glass to gravy, it is rich and gooey throughout. I also cherish the cool little information booklet. The whole package is very classy. Thank you for seeing my order through. Will there be another run of the PC -2A Compressor in the future?

  69. James Pace Band - U.S.A. 1st April 2018

This pedal [‘Mercury’ fuzz] brought an entire plethora of overtones and richness to my Handwired Fender Vibroverb Cesar Diaz – unreal. It’s not a just a boost it’s a multidimensional tone shaping tool too. Tested mine fully today with Fender Custom Shop guitar and handwired Vibrolux and Bluesbreaker amps in parallel and it sounds really unique. It has the glassy highs on the top strings and the fuzzed buff on the lower strings. It’s special. Same with the ‘Fire Bottle’. They both truly redefine their class. My board is now 70% Effectrode. And that wasn’t intentional; they are just THAT good.

  70. Giovanni Grossetti - Germany 1st April 2018

Dear Phil, I received Monday the package with the ‘Mercury’ Fuzz. It took me a couple of day to find the time to play with it and finally yesterday night I could use it. I can confirm that it plays wonderfully on my P-Bass. I almost did not want to disengage it anymore! I do not hear any loss of bottom ends, on the countrary rolling off the volume on the bass and keeping on the pedal the volume at 3 and the fuzz at 9 it adds a rich and pleasant dirty tone (I played Sunshine of your love with it and I felt being Jack Bruce!). All of this to say that I am fully satisfied with this pedal and that this changed my perception of a fuzz on bass. Now I wish patiently to put myself in the queue for the Echorec 3 :). I look forward to hearing news about it. All the best
