If the electrolytic power supply capacitor in your Echorec is original it will almost certainly not be performing as well as when the machine shipped new from the Binson factory half a century ago. This is because the electrolyte slowly evaporates away just like when the acid level drops in a car battery, however unlike a car battery you can’t top up a capacitor with water. However, the good news is that you don’t need to replace the capacitor – this article explains how the capacitor can be reworked and restored to as new performance, retaining the original appearance of the machine’s internal circuitry.
