The pictures below are of Echorec chassis metalwork that had the paint removed as part of a full Echorec restoration for a customer. The Echorec chassis is made up of 11 different pieces of mild steel metalwork. The metalwork was carefully stripped using solvents to remove the original paint which someone had had the bright idea of over spraying in blue at some point in the machines’ history. I would always recommend not stripping off the original finishes or modifying any old and valuable equipment as it destroys the history, authenticity and the story the machine has to tell. In this case it was impossible to remove the blue paint without seriously damaging the original hammered gold that had been applied all those decades ago at the Binson Factory in the 1960s. The metalwork is in amazing condition though and looks as good as new. Nothing like this has been seen for over 50 years!
