Description

This Fire Bottle™ booster pedal is in a different league to a typical transistorised boost/drive stompbox, being more toneful and responsive. The pedal contains a vintage tube amplifier input stage that works as a glassy, clean sounding boost on lower gain settings or, when running at full-tilt, push a tube amp into producing a beautifully rich overdrive. It will add warmth and some growl to thicken up the tone of single coil pickups without losing definition and clarity. If you’re seeking a flexible boost pedal with a richer tone than germanium or silicon boost pedals then the Fire Bottle is the answer!

The Fire Bottle is based on a N.O.S. (new old stock) Sylvania sub-miniature 6112 vacuum tube operating at true tube amplifier plate voltages. The 6112 is manufactured to meet the stringent MIL-E-1 specification for reliability and designed for long service life under conditions of severe shock, vibration (20,000G!), high temperature and high altitude. The sub-miniature tubes represent the pinnacle of tube technology and offer exceptional performance and reliability. This makes it the perfect tool for studio and touring in even the harshest conditions. Like all Effectrode tube pedals, the Fire Bottle is true bypass for uncoloured feed-through.

‘Les Paul’ and ‘335’ players. The Fire Bottle pedal can be used to excellent effect with ‘humbucker’ pickups too—these types of pickups already possess a thick sound which the Fire Bottle will further enrich, creating some devastatingly fat tones.

Note: This is a limited edition pedal. Due to the limited availability of high quality N.O.S. tubes we cannot guarantee continued production of this pedal for any amount of time.

FEATURES

  • 100% analogue tube signal path based on a vintage N.O.S. Mil-spec sub-miniature 6112 tube with black plates (operating at amp plate voltages). Each tube is burned in for 24 hours and each Fire Bottle pedal tested and hand assembled by the designer to make sure it is perfect.
  • Boost Control: ranges from 0dB (unity buffer) to massive 30dB to push the clean channel of a tube amp into breakup and overdrive. Tone Control: Classic Fender® ‘Harvard’ tube amp tone control with internal ‘Q’ adjustment to fine-tune the response.
  • Resonance Switch: Fine-tunes the resonant peak of a single coil pickup to alter the fundamental tone. Two settings make it possible to shift the resonant peak 2 to 4KHz down. This has the effect of making a Strat® bridge pickup sound like a neck pickup or even a humbucker for a thicker, fatter and fuller sound adding a huge degree of flexibility to your guitar tone.
  • True Bypass Switching: With Effectrode’s unique ‘anti-pop’ or ‘thump’ footswitching circuitry utilising sealed, gold-contact relay to eliminate the possibility of dirty contacts degrading the sound and minimal internal audio path.
  • ‘Dakaware’ Knobs: Authentic bakelite ‘Dakaware’, Chicago 1510 knobs custom manufactured for Effectrode in the U.S.A using the original 1940s moulds.
  • Fitted with N.O.S Sylvania tube: Each Fire Bottle boost is fitted with a hand-selected 6112 sub-miniature tube. This is one of the finest tubes ever built by any manufacturer at any time in history.
  • Includes 12V Wall-wart Power Supply: High quality low-noise switched mode 12VDC at 1.5A wall-wart compatible with all our pedals. Accepts 100V to 240VAC mains input and comes with different mains outlet adaptor plugs, so there is always a plug that fits the country that you are playing in.

I promised myself that I would not have a board full of always-on pedals, when I released the PC-2A was going on as soon as I plugged in. No point giving things a boost at the start, as where do you go when you, er, need another boost? But, especially with my Strat and Tele, it’s a temptation to just have this thing always-on, too. Gives single coils a thick wallop, but is very useful with humbuckers, too. I’ve still to find a disappointing Effectrode pedal!

Using the Fire Bottle in the fx loop of a Mixing Link into an AER Domino for intimate acoustic sets; solo voice and guitar; bit of compression pre, bit of verb post. Not what it was designed for, but the most simple acoustic setup I’ve had confidence in AND the best sounding. Transformative – Glorious.

Hi Timo, Thank you for your positive feedback on the Fire Bottle booster – a nice boost for us here! All the best, Phil

My name is Noah Scot Snyder. I am film scoring mixer and record producer in Los Angeles. I just wanted to drop a line of thanks. I’ve recently bought a Fire Bottle and it’s a tremendous piece of gear. I own a lot of pedals and this one stands out. Your attention to detail in design and part selection is second to none. The Fire Bottle is among the most “amp like” pedals I’ve ever used. It’s very dynamic and musical and the beauty it brings to the high end is something new to me. It’s hard to make it shrill, yet the high end is present and wonderful. It’s a unique “boost” pedal and I’ve already wowed the first guitarist I recorded with it. I also find the information on your website really outstanding and useful. Thanks for your time and energy and I’m sure I’ll be buying more soon.

I have had the Fire Bottle now for quite some time. I currently own around a dozen OD pedals, including a famous green one and a famous one with a mythical creature on it. Your pedal is not a good OD; it’s the best OD out there!
At present, I am using the Fire Bottle to push my 1979 Hiwatt Custom 50. This pedal opens that amp right up. The crunch is tight and aggressive without compromising note clarity for chord work. The best part is that I can clean things up either by backing of the guitar volume or simply lightening my pick attack.
    Great work!

  5. Daryl Buckley (Elision Ensemble) - Australia 1st June 2010

…the Fire Bottle and the Phaseomatic. They are in a chain with the Owens Overdrive (transistor unit) but the Effectrode units give the grittiness of the Owens a depth and expansiveness which is really wonderful. Suddenly the distortion breathes…

  6. Shane Hayter - Australia 1st January 2011

Hi guys, thanks for the “Fire Bottle” no.009 probably the best buy for me in 20 years. I cannot turn this thing off! Fats everything up… clean or dirty… playing a Tele through “The Bottle” into vintage EHX Bad Stone onto a very cool Savage Macht 6 1×12… words can’t explain! All the best for the new year! Regards Shane

  7. Andre Bourget (Tapestry Music) 30th November -0001

I tried the new Fire Bottle and was very, very impressed… an excellent boost that works wonders with single coils.
Our customer who bought it was totally blown away when I plugged him into it. So… can we get two please?

  8. Doug DeAngelis - U.S.A. 1st March 2011

Wow – the Fire Bottle is brilliant! I have never heard anything like it. Definitely giving my strat a lot more versatility. I am scoring new NBC show called The Playboy Club that takes place in 1963 in Chicago. The score is primarily jazz rooted, and I am so happy to be able to play my Strat on it!

  9. Don Erhardt - Canada 1st April 2012

I just bought a Fire Bottle from a small dealer out here on the West Coast of British Columbia. The city is called White Rock and the store is Tapestry Music. They are passionate about what they do. I’m flat out impressed with the Fire Bottle and it’s ability to blend in with my amp. It seems to be the missing ingredient to an otherwise spectacular amp.

  10. Sean Duffy - U.S.A. 1st May 2012

Just picked up a Fire Bottle last week and I’m loving it! Just what I needed to push my low-watt tube amp. Still ready for a Vibralux when they hit the market 🙂 Keep up the good (great) work.

  11. Ryan Olah - U.S.A. 1st May 2012

Wanted to let you know I picked up a Fire Bottle and am loving it pushing my Victoria Regal II (which is a tube swapping beast! Perfect companion to your pedals!). I will make some Fire Bottle vids and get them on YouTube because that pedal is completely under-represented!

  12. Jon Russell - U.S.A. 1st June 2012

I received my Fire Bottle pedal about two weeks ago, and I wanted to tell you guys you knocked it out of the park again. This pedal is like having total new pickups in my guitar. I tried using the pedal only to boost solos, but I can’t stand to hear my tone without the pedal engaged. I love it, keep Phil happy he’s an awesome tone design engineer…

  13. Michael Clement - U.S.A. 1st July 2012

Thanks again for the Fire Bottle. My set-up is a Kramer Striker / Rock n Roll 50 by legend Amplifiers (This amp was used by ZZ on some of their earlier works) with the Fire Bottle, it is an unbelievable whoop-ass, unique, sound.

  14. Jason Carlton - U.S.A. 1st August 2012

WOW! I’m playing a Les Paul custom through an Orange AD30 and it sounds amazing. Great pedal!

  15. Joe Caruso - U.S.A. 1st February 2013

I am absolutely crazy about the Fire Bottle!

  16. Paul Stacey - Great Britain 1st March 2014

The Fire Bottle is killer. I’m really loving it and have to get another one.

  17. Michael Lyon 1st March 2014

I would like to go on the waiting list for the Helios fuzz if possible. I purchased the Fire Bottle last month and I have to say it is an outstanding pedal.

  18. Gerlad Ernst - Germany 1st April 2014

I recently purchased the Fire Bottle and am absolutely thrilled since. This pedal is absolutely brilliant, thank you so much! Thanks a lot for your fabulous pedals (I also own a Tube-Vibe and the PC-2A)!

  19. Jason Carlton 1st April 2014

Your work never ceases to amaze me Phil! Every pedal is so perfect! I will never own a non-Effectrode pedal. Everything else somehow sounds fake now. Today was a great step forward after realizing the true way to use the Fire Bottle. I had always used it as a boost (prior to getting the tube drive), but it really shines as a buffer, first in the signal chain. Everything has suddenly come back to life. Everything sings. The tube swapping capabilities of the pedals are great also. This has led me into learning so much in the way of gain factors, tube manufacturing, quality, etc. If you want a certain sound, there’s probably a tube for it. I appreciate all the time you have spent assisting me and answering my questions over the year(s). Taking the time to try to understand what you have done with each pedal has been a great compass on my quest for tone.

  20. Matt Rubenstein - U.S.A. 1st June 2014

First I would like to tell you how much I like this pedal [Fire Bottle]. But I am not using it as a boost. I like the sound of it so much, that I have it set at unity gain so that it doesn’t hit the front end of my amp any harder than normal. The end result is not only a higher resolution sound, but a richer and smoother sound as well. To use hi-fi terms, it was as if a “veil” was lifted off of my sound. So adding the Fire Bottle to my rig was like adding an ultra high end tube pre-amp to my guitar’s electronics. And when you look at it that way, it is a tremendous value at about $250.00. I leave it on at all times. The analogy to me is when you do a significant component upgrade in an audio system the whole system sounds better. That is the impact the Fire Bottle has had on my rig.

My question to you is if I set the Fire Bottle to unity gain, not a boost, which I do, and put it first in my chain, would it be acting as a “tube buffer”? What I also find interesting is that all other “buffers” I have tried in front of my Germanium fuzzface have negatively affected the sound of it. The Fire Bottle even makes my Germanium Fuzz face sound better. What is different about the Fire Bottle that makes it the only “buffer” type device I have tried that not only doesn’t negatively affect my FF, but makes it sound better? I bet putting your Fire Bottle first in line is probably the most effective/affordable way to approximate the magic of tube buffers on a pedalboard a la the Cornish/Gilmour board. Thanks and thanks for making such a great pedal.

  21. Matt Rubenstein - U.S.A. 1st September 2014

Hello Phil. I hope all is well by you. Just wanted to let you know how I use the Fire Bottle, as it might not be one of the more obvious solutions. I don’t use it as a boost at all. I keep it at “unity gain”. In other words, no difference in volume between my wet (fire bottle) and dry signal. It becomes an “enhancer”, not a boost. In this mode, it even makes a $300.00 Crate solid state amp sound good:) I know, I tried it:) And, it makes a great tube amp sound even better. In fact, in this facility, it just makes every amp you put it in front of it, regardless of the quality, sound noticeably better. I think the best analogy is from the hi-fi world. It’s like doing a major component upgrade which results in the whole system sounding better. Any boosting I do, will happen after the Fire Bottle.

  22. Rob Jackson - Great Britain 1st September 2014

Just wanted to say again “wow” – the Fire Bottle did exactly what I was hoping – I like the Vari-Z best in the down position. The tone control was a nice surprise too – really nice to have that add a bit of “air” to my steel. Other tone controls can sound super harsh on steel guitar as I’m sure you know.

  23. Rob Jackson - Great Britain 1st September 2014

Loving the pedals by the way – superb work. Been getting some glorious sounds using the Fire Bottle into a Radial “Pro” passive DI – it has quite a nice transformer in there and with the Fire Bottle max’d out, the sound is amazing for DI recording / straight into a PA. Also the s/n ratio is astounding – how many boost pedals can you max out and still have a good s/n ratio. I only know of one so far.

  24. Christopher Earle - Australia 1st February 2015

By the way the Fire Bottle is essential to the baritone lead sound! It’s the biggest sound imaginable, yet very well defined. It’s a very different sound, having so much bandwidth and sustain for me, I’m very happy with it and I’m still surprised by it. The trick I got off Ivan who made the amps was to stack his pedals: overdrive-distortion-treble booster all at 12v for headroom and at very low gain – that’s the base driven sound – for heavy chords and lower gain playing. With the Fire Bottle on at the start of the chain, it sharpens it up and gives an amazing lead sound – all four together – I dont change it – either finger style or pick it sounds 100%. For slide on the 5 string, I use ‘all four’ pedals on with the compressor at 10/9 settings, but switch down for squish – people said they’ve never heard a slide guitar sound like it – to me it has that sonorous quality of a big pedal steel – I’m also getting an explorer custom baritone lap steel made at the moment, which will be fun. These two settings sound fantastic running into the Tube-Vibe as well – with the delays on, I just love that sound. Thanks for making such good stuff – I doubt I’d ever change it – just get backups one day. P.S. I saw the video of Dave Gilmour with your pedals for the latest album, big feather in the cap!

  25. Adam Rensel - U.S.A. 1st July 2015

I have your comp and booster. Wish I could find the Phasomatic. Love em! You’re a behind the scenes artist that sculpts the textures of soundscapes that live every day! You and your team are first rate in my book and I thank you for that.

  26. Sion Michel - U.S.A. 1st October 2015

Another amazing pedal!!! I now have three – Helios – Tube-Vibe and now the Fire Bottle. What a crazy clean boost and quiet to boot. Far out! I am so pleased with these pedals! I push the others on my board aside or sell them. You’re a genius of Tone. I wait patiently now for the Blackbird to be re-released.

  27. Phil Helow - U.S.A. 1st October 2015

I received my Fire Bottle pedal today. Brilliant! I love the tone and punch it adds to a variety of guitars.

  28. Josef Bialas - Germany 1st March 2016

I just wanted to tell you that I really, really love my Fire Bottle and that it has been the only (!!) pedal on my board that was always on it, and also always on :D. It was the only one to survive many changes and I still love it!

  29. Cory Leishman - U.S.A. 1st May 2016

So many Overdrive pedals sound great, however they don’t always feel great. I’ve found with most transistor based gain pedals, if not all, they either sound best when you slam the strings really hard and compress the pedal and flatten everything out and “trick” your ears, or when you play really soft to where it’s not really overdriving but rather creating a different tonality then without the pedal on. But the problem lies anywhere in between the dynamic extremes. If you don’t play too soft or too hard, there are fizzy artifacts lingering behind the notes, much like digital distortion. Tubes however, don’t have this issue. Enter the Fire Bottle. If you place it after a transistor based OD, it literally seems to remove the weird distortion artifacts all together, while simultaneously adding dimension, texture and fullness. To the guys not sure if they would like to enter the world of valve pedals, I recommend they try this. I may have liked so many more of my pedals had I always had the Fire Bottle behind them. Great pedal!

  30. Phil Robinson - Great Britain 1st June 2016

I purchased a Fire Bottle from Custom Pedalboards a while back – used it a bit and forgot about it. Rediscovered it today and MAN ALIVE it’s incredible. The dynamics that the tube brings are just incredible so I wish to use your devices in the future. Many thanks in advance, and congratulations on an amazing product.

  31. Karabiner Studios - U.S.A. 1st December 2016

We’ve always found boost and distortion pedals to take away from the organic sound of good tube amps. That is, until we found the Fire Bottle. This thing provides an amazing boost without changing the character or your rig. Carr Amplifiers Impala and Swart Amplifier Co. MOD84 are two that we have used the pedal on most recently. Sooooo good. We’ve gotten rid of a lot of pedals, but all our Effectrodes are still here. Can’t wait for the Mercury Fuzz to be back in stock.

  32. Justin Slojkowski - U.S.A. 1st February 2017

…loving everything. The Fire Bottle lately has been my best friend as I’ve been playing my Les Paul more instead of Strat and I can definitely get the LP sounding ‘Stratty’. Love it.

  33. Douglas Robertson - Alaska 1st March 2017

The Fire Bottle arrived this afternoon and I’ve just finished putting four hours in with it. Wow.Just a strat into the Fire Bottle into an Allen Accomplice (deluxe reverb) and I don’t think I’ve ever been happier with the tones I was getting out of that guitar and amp. (And I’ve been using a PC-2A like that for years!) Just perfect. Tomorrow I’ll try both the FB and the PC-2A! Thanks for everything! Can’t wait for the next pedal to come available!

  34. Jim O’Connor 1st March 2017

I don’t recall if I asked to be placed on the waiting list for your Mercury fuzz. But if not, please do so. I would love to pair the Mercury with my Fire Bottle, Vibra Chorus, humbuckers and Steel String Singer clone. I’m hoping for Santana meets Gilmour. You recently repaired my Vibra Chorus and sent one of the new batch of Fire Bottles. They are magnificent. The Fire Bottle pushing the FET input of the SSS creates an amazing deep and powerful overdrive. Different from the Dumble ODS, but just as clear and articulate.

  35. Christopher Leach 1st March 2017

Just hooked up my Fire Bottle and Tube-Vibe – bloody amazing. Was using a Tweed Champ, which sounds good unassisted, but the Fire Bottle adds a wonderful dimension. Great name too…

  36. Chris Filben - U.S.A. 1st July 2017

I was fortunate enough to find a new Fire Bottle recently. This is the finest magnetic pickup boosters I have ever played. The Fire Bottle is the perfect complement for either a Fender Stratocaster or Telecaster. It seriously adds awesome oomph to the sound of all single coil pickups. All I can say is the Fire Bottle makes my Telecaster and Stratocaster sound like a million bucks through my Fender amplifiers. Keep up the great work, Phil! I absolutely love your pedals. They are insanely great!!!

  37. Josh 1st July 2017

I use an Effectrode Fire Bottle with a Strat in front of my 5E3 Tweed and it really opens things up. More grind, clearer sound for home practise volumes and in general makes everything more responsive. I bought the Fire Bottle as a boost, but now it is an ‘always on’ pedal for me and a key part of my guitar sound. Highly recommended as part of your tonal arsenal!

  38. Chris Filben 1st July 2017

Hi Phil, I am using the Fire Bottle in a dual Fender stereo setup with two Blackbird SR-71 preamps in front of each amp. I predominantly use the Fire Bottle when playing my American Strat or Tele, which has a rare 1980s Modulus Graphite Tele neck, long since discontinued by Modulus. I have played through more boosters than I care to recall. The Fire Bottle is literally in a class by itself. My bi-amped Fender system has NEVER sounded so good since introducing the Fire Bottle into my line. I can only attribute it to your amazing selection of the Tube in the Fire Bottle and the hours of meticulous work that obviously went into the design of the Fire Bottle. You make some of the finest pedals on the market today. And your attention to detail is beyond applaudable. I want to personally thank you for making such incredible pedals. On another note, including the Tube Drive and/or the Mercury Tube Fuzz in the line with the Fire Bottle is beyond compare. Sonic nirvana! And the noise floor on these pedals is beyond compare. They are incredibly quiet when in standby mode, which for me is virtually never. PLEASE keep developing and releasing these incredible line of pedals. The Fire Bottle is an absolute MUST HAVE device for anyone who plays a Strat or Tele. End of story! I can’t wait for the upcoming release of the PC-2A and particularly the PhaseOmatic. You have a devoted customer for life in me. Your pedals are simply some of the best sounding devices I have ever had the pleasure of playing. And their looks are just as awesome as the sounds they produce. Thank you, Phil!

  39. Chris Leach 1st July 2017

I am using a Fire Bottle with a Tweed Champ and a ‘blackface’ Princeton Reverb. I leave it on all the time and it sits outside the effects loop. Guitars are Fenders and P90 equipped Gibsons. Sounds absolutely like the sound in my head I could never get.

    Thanks so much.

  40. Brian Bushaw 1st August 2017

Just got my hands on a Fire Bottle, and am already absolutely hooked! In fact, I have a Mercury on the way and was wondering — should the Mercury go into the Fire Bottle, since the Fire Bottle will almost always be on? Both manuals say they should be first in the chain, but it sounds like the Mercury may work better in front if it adds a bit of noise. Would love to hear your professional opinion!

Thanks so much for these amazing pedals! Will be getting on the next Compressor list when announced!

  41. Richard Mazzaferro - U.S.A. 1st May 2018

Thanks again for facilitating my purchase of yet another one of your amazing pedals. The only problem is that now I want them all!

I received the Fire Bottle Boost Friday but reserved Saturday afternoon when the Lady of the House and my son would be out to fire up the Hiwatts and give it a go. Per the instructions I let the pedal warm up for a couple minutes and then had at it. The chain was my ’79 Stratocaster into the Fire Bottle then straight into the amp. The results were astonishing.

As the owner of several high-end ODs and boosts of various flavours, I can honestly say that the Fire Bottle reigns supreme and will be the One for my upcoming album and mini tour, albeit in my relatively modest capacity. This Boost gave me the glassy, brilliant shimmer that opened the tone without sacrificing warmth. I also loved the fact that, with a slight roll back in guitar volume and pick attack, I could easily clean things up giving me the on the fly control needed for a live gig. I could say so much more about this pedal.
